For years I struggled with finding the best products for beard growth. I had a patchy beard that, no matter what I tried, would not fill in the way I wanted. I tried everything from apple cider scrubs to Zen meditation, and nothing seemed to work.

Finally, I got off my butt, took the bull by the horns, and did something about it. I systematically tried dozens of products and treatments while taking loads of notes. After stumbling around for a couple of years, I finally found some things that worked. Now my beard is thicker than ever.

So what exactly did I find? After investing so much of my time, money and energy, I decided to post a list of the things that worked for me. That doesn’t mean all of them will work for you, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Read on to learn how I kicked my beard into overdrive.

8 Of the Best Products for Stimulating Beard Growth

  1. Minoxidil (Rogaine)

Minoxidil is the active ingredient in Rogaine and other popular hair growth products. It began as a high blood pressure medicine. They re-packaged it as Rogaine when users reported increased hair growth.

Rogaine is meant for use on the scalp. It’s an off-label use, but some men are using it to jump start facial hair growth.

After a lot of research, I jumped in and tried Rogaine myself and got excellent results. If you’re thinking of giving it a shot, be sure to do some homework, so you understand what you’re doing. Start by checking out our post about how it aids beard growth. Knowledge is power, chief, so you should also see these Minoxidil user reviews before jumping on the bandwagon. You can weigh the pros and cons of using Minoxidil for your beard.

  1. Beard Growth Supplements

Beards are unique animals that require plenty of pampering. They need lots of essential vitamins and minerals to help them grow out as thick and full as possible. One of the most important supplements you can take for optimal hair growth is biotin. Beard experts and dermatologists recommend taking it daily for good beard health.

In addition to the biotin supplement, the others noted below provide a range of vital beard-friendly ingredients. Researchers have determined that these compounds are essential for accelerated hair growth. Here are some supplements I’ve tried, and I feel they do a good job:

  • Natrol Biotin supplement. This gives you a good dose of biotin, which is, as noted above, essential in aiding hair growth.
  • Beard Grow XL. This is another product that’s helped me grow a thicker, fuller beard. It’s a supplement that contains vitamins and other materials essential for beard hair strength and growth.
  • Beard Growth Supplement. You will not be shocked to learn this is another beard growth supplement. I’ve used it and feel it’s done a good job of getting some additional hair growth in my beard.
  1. Beard-Friendly Vitamins

There are five important vitamins and compounds I take every day for beard growth, and you should too. These come highly recommended by nutritionists for hair strength and growth:

You can find these products online or at your local health food store.

  1. Beard Oil

I highly recommend you slap this beard oil on your scruff if you’re interested in a thicker beard. In addition to moisturizing, it’s also specially formulated to stimulate beard growth and fullness. But don’t jump the gun and expect a bushy beard overnight. It takes time before any topical product will start to show results.

I’ve had great success with this product. It not only keeps my beard moist, soft and glossy, but it also does an excellent job of helping to generate additional growth.

I also recommend this beard oil from Kave. I’ve used it with success. It’s easy to apply and does generate hair growth for me if I use it faithfully.

  1. Beard Balm

This Beard balm is another good beard growth product from the folks at Delta Genesis. I use it when I want to put a little snap and style in my beard. Like all beard balms, this is pomade designed to shape your beard. It also provides essential moisturizers.

I use this product when I’m stepping out for the evening and want my beard to look sharp. And it’s nice to know that it’s helping my beard grow thicker at the same time.

I don’t recommend you use this pomade in place of your beard oil, because it’s intended more as a styling product, while the oil is a true moisturizing-only product.

  1. Beard Growth Shampoos and Conditioners

Here is the best beard shampoo and conditioner combo I’ve found for helping me grow a thicker beard. In addition to shampooing and conditioning, they promote beard hair growth. And they’re green, containing all natural ingredients. These include biotin, argon oil, eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, and other stuff that will help get your beard to sprout.

Don’t be tricked into thinking you can use the same shampoos and conditioners on your beard that you use on your head. Those products may contain harsh chemicals and detergents that can dry out your beard and the skin underneath.

These beard-only shampoo and conditioner products are an excellent choice for us dudes who have a hard time growing a thick beard. I highly recommend them.

  1. Beard Growth Super-foods

They say you are what you eat, and this is very true when it comes to our beards. A while back I discovered the following beard super-foods, which have helped me grow a thicker, fuller mug rug. If you don’t always have time to shop, you can buy most of these online, at least in supplement form.

  • Cinnamon: Contains antioxidant, antiviral, and antifungal properties that help improve blood circulation to hair follicles.
  • Protein: Protein is essential to hair growth. Lean meats like beef, chicken and pork are excellent sources of protein. But if you’re not into meat, this protein powder is a whey-based product loaded with the same vital nutrients.
  • Salmon: Packed with essential omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is crucial for thick, strong, glossy hair. Salmon is also a good source of protein. If you don’t always have time to buy and cook salmon, this salmon oil is a good alternative to the real thing.
  • Pumpkin seeds: These seeds help you load up on zinc, an essential element for building healthy hair follicle cells. In fact, a deficiency of zinc can result in hair loss.
  • Spinach: Full of vitamins K, C and A. Also iron, beta carotene and folate. These compounds work in harmony to moisturize hair follicles. All these compounds have been shown to improve hair growth and strength, especially vitamin K. If you would like an excellent substitute for the real thing, try this.
  • Bell peppers: Loaded with vitamins, especially vitamin C, that protect and strengthen your beard hair from breakage. Not into peppers? Try this alternative for your vitamin C hit.
  • Sweet potatoes: Great source of vitamins noted for aiding hair growth. I once ordered them online from Amazon and found them better than local store bought.
  • Raw peanuts: Peanuts contain significant amounts of biotin, which helps hair grow thicker. Just ¼ cup of raw peanuts holds 88% of the recommended dose of biotin.
  1. Experimental Beard Growth Devices

This is where we’re going to talk about some new-to-the-market devices. I confess I’ve only tried one of these – the hydrobrush – and it does seem to help promote hair growth. Let me know how it goes.

HydroBrush – This is an interesting device ingeniously designed to promote hair growth. It’s a hollow brush with hollow plastic bristles. You fill the brush handle and head with your favorite Minoxidil or other hair-growth product and brush your beard thoroughly.

I have found it surprisingly useful in spreading the product (in my case, Rogaine) into my beard while massaging my face at the same time. I think my beard has grown because of it.

Quimat Facial Massager – Okay, I admit I have not tried this device, and I’d love to get a picture of you trying it. C’mon chief, I’m kidding. Sheesh. I have a patchy-bearded friend who swears this thing helped him get more hair to grow in his beard. The idea behind the face massager is the stimulation it provides to hair follicle cells, therefore causing them to sprout. Go ahead, give it a try.

In addition to the tips noted above, there are other things you can do to stimulate hair growth. These include regular exercise and seven or eight hours of sleep every night. Most of all, you should always make sure to set aside enough time in your day to de-stress. Nothing in the world will cause hair loss or impeded growth faster than stress. Consider breathing exercises or meditation if you’re under a lot of pressure.

In conclusion, my bearded brother, these are the best products for beard growth. If you add all of the above into your beard-growing routine, I’m sure you’ll see a thicker, healthier beard.
